THE FALL OF AGUINALDO

"My General, you owe it to our people to live and continue fighting for freedom."
-Barcelona

*Segismundo Surrenders and Emilio's Wherabouts

February 8 1901 - Emilio's messenger, Cecilio Segismundo together with some people

surrendered to Brigadier General Frederick Funston at San Isidro, Nueva Ecija

Lazaro Segovia - a former Spanish officer who decoded the messages that was carried by
Segismundo
Pastor and Colon de Magdalo - pen names used by Emilio Aguinaldo
Among the messages the most important was an order to Emilio's cousin, Generla
Baldomeo Aguinaldo to send some forces to Palanan.
*The Plan to Capture Colon de Magdalo
The expedition team consisted of Brig. Gen. Funston and 4 other american officers,
Segovia, Placido and three other Tagalogs and the eighty Macabebes.

Funston disguised the Macabebes as the reinforcement that Emilio Aguinaldo expects.
Funston and other American officers were disguised as prisoners of war. They wrote a
letter and forged the signature of General Lacuña to make the disguise more effective.

March 6 1901 - the team boarded the USS Vicksburg on Manila Bay.
March 14 1901 - they reached Casiguran Bay.
March 22 1901 - Emilio Aguinaldo celebrated his 32nd birthday. The day before his
capture.
March 23 1901 - the men in disguise reached Palanan and entered Aguinaldo's camp
without any difficulties.

Placido and Segovia entered the house where Aguinaldo was and at a given signal, the
macabebes suddenly fired on the guards who were surprised and easily overpowered.

Placido grabbed Aguinaldo from behind and Segovia started firing like a madman.

Aguinaldo had whipped his pistol but Dr. Santiago Barcelona held him by the arms and
said, "My General, you owe it to our people to live and continue fighting for freedom."

Then Funston together with his men entered the scene and arrested Emilio Aguinaldo in
the name of the US government.

March 25 1901 - Emilio boarded the USS Vicksburg(Manila) as a prisoner of war

April 1 1901 - Oath of Allegiance to the US

April 19 1901 - Sovereignty of the US

"Let the stream of blood cease to flow; let there be an end to tears and desolation." -
Aguinaldo
